December 2015......catch up!

What a long time since I last posted!  I won't make excuses.  But I will post some photos of what I have been up to.

My tiny shop at bigcartel is alive and kicking.  A big thank you to everyone who has been purchasing patterns from me.  It really is lovely to be sending those patterns off into the wide world and to get lovely emails back from people telling me what they are embroidering.

My focus has been on painting lately, though I do wish I was embroidering more than I have been.  I joined a lovely art group and I go once a week, trying to improve.  I still don't think I have discovered my style and I like experimenting with lots of different mediums.  I'm trying to keep internet time to a minimum, but I am not so good when it comes to Instagram.  It is so easy to get lost in looking instead of actually doing, so getting into a habit of sitting down to paint or draw or embroider is important to me.  My table is covered in art supplies and embroidery pieces.

Wishing you all a happy, peaceful, healthy 2016!!!

I was making a Christmas embroidery pattern, but I got sidetracked somewhere along the way and haven't finished it.  It was supposed to be similar to my other embroidery which I did a while ago, but I wasn't sure how it was going to look all in black and I couldn't decide whether to put some red into it.  What do you think?

I continued to do the painting a day project - just a postcard size painting or drawing.  I missed days, but that's ok.  At least I tried!

I attempted to keep a little moleskine visual diary as well for quick sketches and paintings.

Beginning the art group made me get out the acrylics again and start practising.

I visited my sisters and the family cats.  There was a new addition to the family - a little poodle/cavalier.  Then I had a visitor to the tree right outside my balcony.  He/she stayed all day then climbed down in the night and disappeared into the darkness.

I've had plenty of swims and beach walks and summery sunsets, well maybe not enough swims yet but summer has really only just begun.

I have just started trying to paint some very cute dogs from Instagram on postcard size watercolour paper and I've used pencil, colour pencil, white pen and watercolour.  I chose these gorgeous dogs from dogsofinstagram.

Now it must be time for a coffee.

Cookies

Google is telling me that European Union laws require me to inform European Union visitors to the blog about the use of cookies.  Google says it has put a notice about this on mine and everyone else's blog.  I can't see the notice though so I hope it is working.  I don't use AdSense and I don't use any other cookies that I know of.  So I hope that I am acting within the law and meeting these requirements.  I'm not overly tech savvy unfortunately :)

Next project....wip

Finally I have time to post a few photos...I've been working on this for a while.  It's the same format as the other two I have embroidered.....a photo (taken by my daughter on Australia Day many years ago)  printed onto artist canvas, but with the colours not printing properly (accidentally)  and some areas printing in the negative.  Then I add stitches, usually just backstitch or running stitch in long and short stitches.  It's fun watching it come together.

Still a lot more stitches to add.

Another stitching project

I started this stitching project last December, though it had been sitting around for longer than that.  I printed a photo onto artist acrylic canvas again, as I have done before with the Walking in New York embroideries and then started to stitch.

I've slowly added stitches (I never work consistently) and now I'm not sure whether to leave it as is, or keep going...I'm always worried if I keep going I'll make a mess, and once a stitch is in this canvas, it's hard to remove it without leaving a noticeable hole.  If I did it again, I would leave out the stitches on the jawline and make sure the lazy daisy stitches were neater!
