Here come the school hols

I found some little things that my daughter and I made out of Fimo many hundreds of years ago (well not quite, but it feels like it).  Now school holidays are about to start and all the grandchildren and nieces will be coming over.  We usually do lots of painting and gluing, stamping and collaging, writing and photographing.   The years are flying by, so I will make the most of it before teenage time takes over and the older ones fly off to be with their friends.

Embroidery from a drawing of my niece

Hopefully we'll be able to get out in the sun and they can go skating and scootering at the skate park, and walking on the beach.

Oops, I just realised someone has already used the name Deer Girl, so I am changing the title of this post!  Only I can't think of anything at the moment so it and my brain are blank!

I did several little paintings last year, after I bought a small postcard size book of watercolour paper.  So when I was wondering what to embroider recently, I went back to the postcard paintings.  I've drawn one onto calico with pencil, and used some colouring pencils on the dress and the deer, and now I am stitching around it in backstitch.

I've been thinking about what to do with the 'girl' embroideries and think I will make them into cushions, like this one one I did for my sister.  If I knew how to quilt I would put them in the middle of little quilts.  Unfortunately my abilities do not extend that far.

Here it is, finished after many interruptions and a distinct lack of persistence ...

My Boy

This is my Boy.  He is an 18 year old cockatiel.  He had a wife but she died 2 years ago.  They had babies, but they are all grown and have flown the coop.  He sings the 1812 Overture.  He also wolf whistles at appropriate moments.  Sometimes I wonder what it will be like when he's no longer here.  I suppose I shouldn't think about it yet.  He still looks quite young, except for a patch on the back of his neck where his wife Tilly henpecked him over the years.

Even though it's winter....

Even though it is winter, it is very beautiful down at the beach......even warm enough for a swim, and there are dolphins (though you can only see their fins) in the second and third photos.  Beautiful sunsets also.  My goodness I love the beach.
